Actor Vijay has been chosen to receive the ‘Best International Actor’ honour in the prestigious London International Achievement Recognition Awards (IARA) for his performance in Mersal.

He competed with the likes of John Boyega (Star Wars: Last Jedi), Jamie Lomas (Hollyoaks), Chris Atoh (Swings), David Tenant (Don Juan in Soah), Jack Parry Jones (Bang) Daniel Kaluuyaa (Get Out) and Zack Morris (East Enders) for the honours.

Mersal directed by Atlee had Vijay essaying a triple role. Produced by Sri Thenandal Studios, the film’s mainstay was AR Rahman’s chart buster songs and music. Meanwhile, there is buzz that Thalapathy will be teaming up with director Atlee for the third time after he completes Sarkar.

When the movie was released last year, it initiated a political controversy after the BJP demanded the deletion of a scene which denounces the new national sales tax or GST.

Vijay is currently shooting for a political thriller Sarkar, directed by A R Murugadoss. Produced by Sun Pictures, it features Keerthy Suresh as heroine. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Radharavi and Pazha Karuppiah form part of the cast. Music is by A R Rahman.
