After almost a year comes Karthi with Saguni. Directed by Shankar Dayal, the movie boasts of a young man's struggle against the system and corrupt politicians using his brains. He accomplishes the task playig mind games.
Interestingly Karthi teams up with Santhanam after Siruthai again for Saguni. They both Kamal and Rajini on screen bringing loads of laughter to audience.Karthi has joined hands with Pranitha, who is just finding her way into the big world of cinema and does what is expected of her in an entertainer. The film has Prakashraj, Kotta Srinivasa Rao, Radhika, Nasser, Kiran among others in key roles.
A modern version of Lord Krishna is the apt description of Karthi's role. He plays mind games to ensure justice.
G V Prakash has scored the music while P G Muthiah has cranked the camera.
Kamalakannan aka Kamal (Karthi) is a simple guy who comes to the city to seek the help of political leaders in a bid to save his home in Karaikudi. However, he stumbles upon one hurdle after the other, especially in the form of the corrupt chief minister (Prakash Raj).
Naturally dejected, he (Kamal) decides that gaining political power is one way to save his property. Then he meets Rajini (Santhanam) and with his help, sets out to do what he aimed to. He first meets a local money-lender (Radhika), who is also a don and convinces her to file a nomination for the post of Corporator. Through his wit and machinations, Kamal makes her the Mayor.
Later, he transforms a rural godman (played by Nasser) into a powerful Godman. He adds the influential opposition leader Perumal (Kota Srinivasa Rao) to bolster his 'team' but faces unexpected troubles from the chief minister. Did he suceed in his attempts makes up the story.
Karthi brings out right emotions and suits the role to T. His body language is cool.He and Santhanam provides unlimited fun in the first half. They seems to share a wonderful bonding between them as was evident in Siruthai.
Pranitha plays a typical Tamil heroine. She appears in few songs, romances Karthi, hates and finally joins hands with him in the climax. Prakashraj plays a cliched Tamil filmi Chief Minister who speaks loud and does all things that brings his own downfall. The likes of Rradhika Sarath Kumar and Nasser have played minuscule roles in the film. Andrea and Anushka play cameo.
There are some logical lapses and some cliched sequences in the second half. But still Saguni is adorable.
