The industry is abuzz with a grapevine that Mani Ratnam, who initially considered Samantha to play the female lead in his forthcoming film, rejected her later after she failed to impress him in screen test.
If sources are to be believed, Mani wanted to cast the up and coming actress in his next movie, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, which would have veteran actor Karthik's son Gautham in the lead role.
'The actress was so thrilled that she would be part of the movie to be directed by India's top filmmaker. She went to screen test with huge expectations. But it is learnt that Mani had rejected her, as Samantha failed to suit the the heroine's role Mani had penned,' sources say.
However, there is no official word about this yet. Meanwhile, Samantha is busy shooting for Gautham Vasudev Menon's trilingual. She is the leading lady in all the three versions of the film, though the heroes are different.
