Tamil cinema ruled the roost at the 58th National Film Awards that were presented at the Rashtrapathy Bhavan in New Delhi on Friday. Veteran filmmaker K Balachander received the presitgious Dada Saheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema from President Prathiba Patil. Veteran Lyricist Vairamuthu received his sixth National award for best lyricist from Prathibha Patil. He was conferred the honpour for his song Kallikattu Thayae in the movie Thenmerkku Paruvakattru. The movie has music by Raghunandhan.
Dhanush collected the best actor's award for his performance in Aadukalam while Saranaya bagged the best actress trophy for her performance in Thenmerkku Paruvakattru. Tamil Cinema totally won 14 awards that includes a couple for Endhiran.
Dhanush thanked his director Vettrimaran, who gave him the opportunity to be part of such a big venture. He says, ' thanks to Vettrimaran, his dream to hold the award for best actor has become a reality'.
