Sun TV Network chairman and managing director Kalanidhi Maran need not appear before Chennai police on Thursday, as the Madras High Court on Wednesday quashed two cases against the COO of Sun Pictures Hansraj Saxena who's behind bars.
The Chennai city Police on Tuesday issued fresh summons to Kalanithi Maran asking him to appear before the investigation officer at the K K Nagar Police Station on July 28 (Thursday). However, now that the cases are quashed by the court, experts feel Kalanithi need not appear before the police.
On July 11, the K K Nagar police issued summons to Kalanithi Maran and asked him to appear before them on July 13, but he failed to appear. Instead, in a letter delivered to the investigating officers through counsel Batcha and Ravikumar, he said he would be outside the city and would not be able to appear before the police till July 26.
Following this, the police issued fresh summons to the media baron, whose close aide and chief operating officer of Sun Pictures Hansraj Saxena was arrested earlier this month following cheating complaints from film distributors.
