Veteran Tamil actor Ravichandran died on Monday at a private hospital in Chennai where he was being treated for nearly ten days for a lung infection. He is survived by wife Vimala, daughter Lavanya, and sons Balaji and Hamsavardhan.
Doctors said he did not respond to treatment and his condition had deteriorated over the last two days. He was on a life support system. Ravichandran made his film debut in 1964 with the comedy film Kaadhalikka Neramillai, alongside T S Balaiya, R. Muthuraman and Nagesh.
A popular hero of the 1960s and 70s, most of whose films were huge hits Ravichandran acted aside erstwhile heroes like MGR and Sivaji Ganesan. Among his latest films are Kanden Kadhalai and Aadu Puli.
In 2005, he stepped into film direction, launching his son Hamsavardhan. Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Ravichandran went on to do his schooling there, only coming to Tiruchi for his Pre University.
