The Income Tax department today conducted raids at the residences and offices of Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty.
The two actors, who are known to have several business interests, are facing IT action for the first time. Reports suggest that this could well be the first major raid on stars from the Kerala film industry.
The raids are based on a tip off that the IT returns filed by the superstars were not directly proportionate to their income.
Raids are currently on at Mammootty's production company Play House in Chennai. His houses in Chennai and Kochi are being raided too.
Tax sleuths also raided the houses of several Kannada film makers and distributors and seized many documents. More than 80 officials were involved in the swoop, according to sources.
