Chairman and managing director of Sun Network Kalanithi Maran, who was summoned to appear before the investigation officer at the K K Nagar Police Station in Chennai on Wednesday in connection with a cheating case, has sought permission to appear on any date after July 26.
Ashok Nagar Assistant Commissioner of Police S Gurusamy said, ‘We have summoned Kalanithi Maran to inquire in connection with the cheating cases against Sun Pictures. He has sent a letter through his counsel seeking time. We have accepted his request. We will wait till July 27.’
Maran was asked to appear before the investigation officer at the K K Nagar Police Station on Wednesday. The move follows the arrest of Sun Pictures chief operating officer Hansraj Saxena after a case was registered against him based on a complaint lodged by Salem-based film distributor Selvaraj.
‘Since the quantum of money in the cheating cases is to the tune of a few crores, we need to examine Mr. Maran in his capacity as the Managing Director of the company. Such huge transactions could not have happened without his knowledge,’ a police officer said.
